Go Active Fishing is delighted to offer our guests some of the finest fly fishing in Europe. Slovenia is synonymous with unspoilt and rich habitats which are relatively untouched by the modern world.

We are pleased to have teamed up with a group of experienced and customer-focussed guides who will make your trip a once in a lifetime experience.

The majority of the fishing is located in the Slovenian Julian Alps. Its unique streams, which are glacial in colour with a sky blue hue to the water, make this a truly spectacular location to fish in.

The Soca River and its tributaries are renowned throughout the World and are a test of the most accomplished fly fisher. Other rivers in this area notably the Tolminka and Idrijca rivers are also available and are again a challenge to the experienced fly fisher's abilities.

Chalk streams are also a feature of Slovenia with the Krka and Unec available to Go Active Fishing. These streams are renowned for their trophy trout and grayling.

Guests may also improve their abilities before venturing on to these rivers by fishing on the Sava Bohinjka or Radovna which are less daunting but are none the less very good rivers in their own right.

The number of rivers available to fish is astounding and will satisfy most anglers wishes in terms of beauty, difficulty, productivity and the sheer pleasure that the alpine climate bestows on you. The Sava, Soca, Idrijca, Krka, Unica, Obrh, Vipava, Lipnica, Savinja, Lepena, Kolpa, Sora, Bistrica, Dreta, Hubelj, Radovna, Koritnica, Baca, Idrijca, Tolminka will allow you to explore this wonderful landscape.

Fly fishing the Soca river Slovenia

The biodiversity of this special place is mirrored in the number of game fish species present including brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling, brook trout and the famous Danube salmon. The area also is home to the marble trout which is one of the defining species of the region and a cornerstone of Slovenian fly fishing.

The only questions remaining is what you require for your trip, what time of the year is best and how Go Active Fishing can accommodate your needs.

The seasons vary in Slovenia but there is always fishing available with the general season lasting from March to November. Trout are dominant during these months with grayling also present

The Danube salmon come to the fore in November right through until February and fly fishing can take these wonderful fish especially in the upper Sora and Sava rivers.

Wading and the use of boats are the preferred methods of fishing.

Go Active Fishing actively encourages catch and release on these pristine rivers. The rivers are basically self-sustaining but a small number of fish are stocked.

The fish grow large in these rivers with Brown trout up to 7 pounds, Marble trout to 20 pounds, Huchen to 40 pounds, Grayling up to 4 pounds and  Rainbows  to 10 pounds. These will test even the most experienced rod.

The equipment required to fish these wonderful waters generally consists of an 8-10 ft rod, AFTM 6 with floating line preferred. The length of leader is generally around 9ft. The flies and tippets will be supplied by our guides dependent on season and conditions.

Generally speaking it is much more beneficial that the guiding is done one to one but a guide between two anglers is acceptable.

The fishing is generally very productive with smaller fish quite active. Larger fish are more difficult to attract which will make your trip interesting in that the better fisherman is always the one in the right place at the right time. We at Go Active Fishing have chosen our guides well and you have a great chance of a fish of a lifetime.

Chest waders are essential with felt or standard sole. Dark neutral clothing and rain jacket / wading jacket essential. Sun block is also recommended.

Our guided fishing does not include packed lunches but these can be purchased locally.

Go Active Fishing will arrange all your in-country transfers, accommodation, daily transfer to fishing locations and generally look after all your needs.

Accommodation will be arranged by Go Active Fishing and if you wish to stay in Ljublana, Skofja Loka or Bled there are a multitude of activities for non-fishing partners or for yourself on any days that you don’t wish to fish.

Lake Bled, Soca valley, Skocjan caves, Idrija, Ljubljana, Piran and Predjama castle are just a few of the natural and historical attractions in the area which can be enjoyed.

All the towns are well serviced by restaurants.
